Photographs and Memories, 1937-1950

I am interested in the malleability of memories, and how photographs are used as record keepers of events, long after our memories have faded. The images from Photographs and Memories, 1937-1950 are taken from my own collection of family photographs, and depict various events in the lives of each of my grandmothers, both of whom I never got to know. I have inserted myself into these images using photoshop and role-play to reimagine the daily circumstances of my lost family members, in an attempt to capture the stories they might have told me if they were a part of my life. By inserting myself into images of my grandmothers, I am hoping that the events depicted become part of my working memory, and that a relationship will be forged despite the absence of my family members.
